April?

We've been hit by a very unseasonal heatwave & it feels like mid summer at the moment. Very odd for mid April but we haven't had any rain for weeks & it's very hot indeed.

I spent last Saturday afternoon having fibre fun turning skeins of sock yarn into knitterable balls of yarn:

Monet did her usual & cooked herself:

Whilst Pam decided to take the cooler option & sat inside on the doormat:

The huge tree at the bottom of the garden now has a trunk & the creeper is starting to die:

The Red Robin looks splendid as always in the sunshine:

We've moved!

Well we're here at last. We survived the move & whilst stressful on the day it went without any major hitches. On moving day itself we still haven't finished removing our stuff from the old house by mid-day but we'd already completed & our buyer was screaming for the keys. As he's not due to move in for 6 weeks I thought that this was a bit unfair but we got them to the estate agent as soon as we could. However this meant that we were unable to wash the kitchen & living room floor but apart from that the whole house was left in an immaculate condition - I just wish our vendors had been so considerate.

When I opened the front door to our new home I made an unpleasant discovery - the previous owners had left the house in the most disgusting state The carpets were unhoovered & sporting huge stains, everything in the kitchen was wearing a thick covering of grease including the cupboards which hadn't even been wiped out when they removed their food & the oven was filthy & totally un-useable. The bathroom stank of pee, the basin still wore toothpaste & the bath with it's added extra colours of yellow, black & red where they'd washed out paint brushes & trays, has the lower level of tiles hanging off the wall & knackered silicon. All windows were foul & DH even discovered a trail of mold inside the conservatory window where food had left untouched for so long that the spores trailed down the glass.

A couple of friends had joined me to help & one quickly went out to buy buckets & we tried to tackle some of the grime before the removal men arrived with the contents of our old house.

Moving all our stuff was bad enough but the whole process was made far worse by the state of the house. Dinner that night was an Indian takeaway & DH managed to find the plates minutes before the delivery guy turned up at the door.

For the first few days I just kept thinking what have we done? Especially two days after we moved when we had water pouring through the kitchen ceiling as the shower cubicle has botch job plumbing. We knew that the kitchen was rough compared to our old house & had planned to replace it pretty quickly. However the bathroom is in a far worse state & as we're a shower family without a working shower this takes priority.

However the house has grown on us now. The area is lovely & we're now officially in a village although it seems a bit big to call it that to me. 10 minutes walk & I can get to a bank, chemist, hardware shop, fantastic deli & the most wonderful Italian bakery you could imagine. Our neighbours are both lovely & it's so quiet The garden is lovely but was VERY overgrown:

This photo was taken before we did anything to it & it looks very different now. We're currently trying to release two trees at the back of the garden from the grips of a vicious creeper & crowbars have been employed amongst other tools as it doesn't want to let go.

For the first time ever we've got off road parking which is a real luxury. Especially when you arrive home with a boot full of shopping & don't have to park far from home. DD's feet can be seen on the left as she took a break from whatever she was helping with.

DD hated it at first due to the dirt & lack of a shower but she now loves it as well. Her room is a bit smaller but she's at the front of the house with her desk in the bay window & is enjoying being nosy & watching everybody as they walk past.

The cats have really surprised us both. They're both 17 next month & I was very worried about Pam. In our last house she lived in the garage & never came into the house. A week before we moved as we were rapidly dismantling her former palace she ventured into the house much to our surprise. But now she's totally transformed & loves the house.

Monet has discovered a new lease of life & has made the most of the recent sunshine:

The dogs seem to like it as well but we're not letting them out into the garden as I don't want it ruining as two female dogs would destroy the lawn. So are having lots of walks & eventually DH is going to build a low fence across the patio so at least they can go outside & we can leave the back door open.

Knitting has taken a back seat over the past few weeks but is to be taken up again as I'm going away tomorrow for a few days as DD is doing some swimming workshops with a top coach and brushing up on her stroke technique so I'll be sat by poolside as usual knitting away.

Monet will no doubt still be enjoying the sunshine:

10/4/07:

I can't believe I forgot to mention the most important thing when I wrote this post last night. DD has got a place at the school she/we wanted!!! The day after the move I spent some time sorting out the paper work & managed to get it faxed to the right department before starting on the massive degrease of the kitchen. The next day we got a letter confirming her place so the whole thing was worth it. She's really relieved that she doesn't have to go to the school she had been allocated & so are we.

At last

We're sorted with the house. After a horrible week of much anguish & stress we finally exchanged contracts this morning & are completing & moving on Thursday. Our buyer has been 'difficult' to say the least & I just hope that I never meet him as I don't trust myself to be civil. However we've got the ultimate revenge as our neighbours erected their trampoline again on Friday so he can deal with the constant sound of springs & other noise from 7.30 a.m to gone 10 p.m. at the weekend & every weekday evening as well. They even bounce in the dark!

98% of the house is boxed up, numbered & colour coded (thanks to Knitterbelle for the tip) so hopefully the move itself will go without hitch. The dogs are now safely in kennels for a few days & Vince goes to rodent kennels tomorrow. DD is at school on the day & she's being brought to the house by a friend after school so at least we've got time to move everything without extra help.

After the fiasco that was Mothers Day DD has calmed down a lot. A few days later part of the cause was revealed & to be honest I think that everything just got too much for her. She's very excited about moving house & can't wait to 'help' unpack things over the Easter holidays.

Not sure when I'll be back but things are definitely looking up!

Unhappy Mothers Day

Before I had children I had visions of quality time spent with my child/ren, painting & other messy fun when small & other more grown up but equally enjoyable activities as they got older. I knew that there would be strops & other 'difficult' times but didn't ever think that I'd have days like yesterday.

I should have been celebrating Mothers Day and as I have a child should (IMHO) have had a lovely easy day; breakfast in bed, showered with home-made gifts & generally had a lovely enjoyable day with my family.

Instead the child from hell was in our home, shouting & causing a lot of unhappiness. I don't know if it's hormonal, stress because we're due to move soon, fear about the house move or even guilt as she knows we're moving to get her into the school of our + her choice - or quite probably a turbulent mixture of all of these Whatever is causing it can't be as bad as the effect she's having on all of us.

Lets just say that DH made breakfast but ended up throwing his onto the kitchen work surface & storming out the house as he'd had enough. DD screamed, shouting BOG OFF to all & sundry (I blame Tracy Beaker for that one) & stropped whilst I spent the day upstairs in our bedroom knitting & feeling thoroughly miserable.

Gifts did come my way but only because I rang Get Knitted late last week & using our joint account treated myself to a few goodies:

I suppose I should be grateful that we only ever had one child....

No progress yet

on our moving saga. For once the delay is not caused by our nightmare buyer but by the use of the wrong letterhead on an essential piece of paperwork & the subsequent sluggishness of a vital clog in the wheel. So exchange of contracts still hasn't taken place but both we and our vendors are pushing for it.

This means that here in the blueadt house we're still living with a variety of boxes; packed, half packed & still flat packed. It's a horrible state to be in & we're still without a firm moving date so vans can't be booked, nor time off work or even rodent kennels for a certain hamster.

Add to this mix a chest infection resulting an abundance of night time coughing so not much sleep going on plus a VERY stroppy pre-teen. If you were planning to stop a while keep walking by....

Preoccupied

I've been quiet on here as we've got lots going on at home.

Our house move is finally progressing. Lets just say our buyer was 'dragging his heels' BIG style. So much so that early last week I thought the whole chain had fallen apart but he's now playing ball. We're expecting to exchange contracts within the next 10 days & hope to complete & move at the end of the month.

So lots of packing at our house & I've been solely responsible for keeping our branch of Freecycle alive & well (or so it seems) as I'm getting rid of LOADS of stuff.

However something happened on Thursday which has made things a bit difficult for me at the moment. As I was taking DD & her friend to school & patiently waiting for a gap in the traffic another driver went straight into the back of my car. The damage to the bumper is minor but I'm now fighting with the insurance company as they want to write off our 9 year old car So I've been finding quotes & can hopefully can get it repaired rather than scraped. All 3 of us had backache that morning & had to see a doctor. DD luckily is fine now & has played football & swam twice since the accident but both her friend & I have whiplash & are in agony. I've not been able to sleep for two nights & keep waking up as I'm in so much pain. So it's just as well that we've decided to hire a removal firm to move us rather than doing it ourselves.

Plus if this weren't enough DD has been allocated the school that we REALLY didn't want her to go to. The whole reason for moving was to keep her away from the girls who made her life hell at her previous primary school & the local authority have denied her a place at all 3 schools we've chosen & elected to send her to this school However I've been assured that once we move (to a different education authority but only about 4 miles away) she'll be able to go to the school of our choice - so please keep your fingers crossed for us that the move goes ahead without any more hold ups.

On a totally different note I forgot to show you all what DH got me on Valentines Day:

Cath Kidston Airedale

I totally love him & want to thank Ari for the heads up & DH of course for buying him.
