Which do you want first?

The good news or bad news?

When presented with this question I always want to get the bad news over with in case it involves something really sinister.

To a non knitter this wouldn't mean a thing but I wasn't impressed when I saw the remains of my notions bag scattered amongst the dog beds:

dead knitters' notions bag
my dead notions bag

The yellow twisted lump at the front of the photo is the remains of my 12mm gold sparkly addi crochet hook & the Kipling Monkey has definitely seen better days. Some other hooks are still usable but have suffered the odd tooth mark & small balls of sock yarn destined to become life lines have been sucked & loved to death. I've swept up the silver zipper teeth but know that I'll be finding them for weeks to come particularly when I'm not wearing any slippers.

And the reason for this carnage??? Apparently my dogs are stressed! We moved their beds when we put the house on the market to a place where they could be whisked away quickly if we had a viewing on the house & this meant that they had free run of the downstairs. Not good. So far 3 scatter cushions have died & now my notions bag whereas previously they hadn't chewed anything for years. So they're back to being confined in the kitchen & the Bitter Bite is out in force. I'll also be buying some Rescue Remedy tomorrow & will be 'doctoring' their drinking water.

And the good news?

Well if I hadn't have come home to the news above I'd still be bouncing with glee as only a knitter can. Today I took delivery of the last part of my Christmas present from DH:

hand crafted wooden yarn swift
Closed yarn swift

Isn't it beautiful?

It is wonderfully crafted & DD is pleased as she no longer has to suffer being a 'swift' as I wind skeins of yarn into usable 'cakes'.

It will be kept far far away from Airedale noses & teeth I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear

Poor Kipling monkey! I hope the rescue remedy works, I have never thought about using it on animals before. Love the swift - did hubby make it himself? If so he is very clever

My doggie is pretty good about shewing things. But every now and then she's angry or stressed and will take something. It'll have no use afterwards.

These days she prefers to take anything with my smell to cuddle, and at the moment those are my WIPs. Yesterday I came home to find a sleeve next to her, taken from my bag. I think she knows she has to be carefull cause the needles were still in and there was no damage. *crossed fingers*

It's their way of telling us, right? but it's still no fun!

I love the swift, I too am getting one from Claire, they are such works of art :)

You poor thing, I thought it was bad enough that my 2 year old would try to steal everything of mine but so far he hasn't chewed anything! :)

Isn't it funny how they suddenly go loopy? - SPot never touches anything - she is allowed over the whole downstairs and is good as gold - until last week when she had a ball of wool in her bed. Luckily no damage, but I've no idea why she suddenly thought it was a good idea. - I can understand your pain!!

Swift looks great - and it'll make life so much easier!

Eek, I am so glad I don't have that to worry about anymore. Minnie never chewed anything, she just peed everywhere!! I don't know which would be worse really. Thanks for the reassurance over my crochet hook.

Lovely swift.

Oh no! What a day!

Still, you gave us the good news last which makes up for it :)

Love the swift! Very tempted here. I was looking at the cath kidson new catalogue earlier and thought of you. An airdale called stanley features in it quite strongly.

Yikes, that is terrible. I sympathise as one of my dogs is unable to resist Kidsilk Haze, (like myself), several balls have been irretrievably "loved" over the years but the worst incident involved a lace knit shawl, I had just finished blocking and folded it over the back of a chair while I went to put the kettle on.... The dog and I were not on speaking terms for some time.

Many thanks for your kind comment on my finished mouse.

Poor notions bag - RIP, after much faithful service. And poor B and A, for getting so stressed (and poor you, for being good and understanding!).

Oh dear, that was a sad and sorry picture. Poor dogs for getting stressed, but couldn`t they have taken it out on something else!

Oh, no. My stomach did a little flip when I saw the picture of the notions bag! I hope they didn't eat too much of the stuff! My sister's dog gets stressed when she is not home (separation anxiety) and has to be crated. At one time they had a crate that was partially made of plastic. She chewed up (and ate) so much of the plastic that it eventually formed a fist-sized ball by her stomach acid and she had to have surgery to get it out. Poor puppy!
