Bank Holiday break

We went to North Yorkshire last weekend for our last trip in the caravan this season. Due to swimming galas & other commitments we can't go away again this year so made the most of our last trip. The site was near Richmond and whilst the area was beautiful the campsite was a total nightmare. I'm going to focus on the positives first & DH took loads of great photos again.

On our first full day we went to Fountains Abbey which is jointly run by the National Trust & English Heritage. We spent a lot of time at the Abbey itself which is an amazing ruin of a 12th Centrury Cistercian Abbey:

We went on a guided tour which really brought the Abbey to life:

On another day we went to Brimham Rocks & the kids had a great time in the natural playground:

However the campsite itself which a nightmare. Full of chavs! DH regulary found cigarette butts in the showers, the noise was horrendous - have any of you ever heard a karaoke competition on a campsite before?

Plus the carvanner behind us had a thing about Country & Western & in particular loved Dolly Parton - enough said

Whilst taking a shower for the first time on the site I noticed hair shavings on the tiles & was sick twice due to the smell in the shower blocks. There was no ventilation apart from an open door & it ponged!

So if you're planning on going camping to this part of the world let me know & I'll steer you clear of this awful site - we won't be going back there again!

Campsite sounds a nightmare. But I love Fountains Abbey - we were there last year in April, and I fell in love with the place. It was a great place to play Hide and Seek with a 3 year old!

What a shame about the campsite, but the rest looks fab! Glad you all had a good time (apart from the site!)

Lovely photos . Shame about the camp site; we have a motorhome so I can fully realte to it !! We are in the Caravan & Camping Club and mainly go on CL sites which have max 5 vans but not so much facilities but that suits us ,all we want is peace and quiet
