exhausted & puzzled

I've spent ALL day with DD at a swimming gala. We got up at 5.30 a.m. & got collected at 6.15 by another parent as we'd agreed a car share. 12 hours were spent in the Sports Complex & she competed in 7 events. I'm totally shattered & she took herself off to bed an hour ago.

It was worth every minute. She beat an old PB (Personal Best) set in June '05 by 14 seconds & another set in November '05 by 9 seconds plus achieved another less dramatic PB. So she's a very happy little girl (or rather not so little as she's now 5ft & only 10 years old). She didn't make medals this time as it was a HUGE meet & had approx 400 competitors doing over 2500 swims!

She came home to a fantastic reward as DH had made his wonderful pizzas & we're all stuffed now. DH & I have also opened a bottle of red so I'm starting to feel a bit merry as well as shattered.

To make this knitting related - I was naughty last night

I'm totally bored by the Poncho that I'm knitting from baby cashmerino 2 so cast on for a new pair of socks for DH with the Lana Grossa Boot Stretch that I bought a few months ago.

I had a nightmare getting gauge as per instructions in Sensational Knitted Socks as I only have small addis in 2mm, 2.5mm + 3mm which leads to to a question for all my US readers:

Can you obtain addis in the following sizes - 2.25mm & 2.75mm in 40cm lengths?

I'm a bit confused regarding the different sizes & have got my tired brain in loops over this -I don't suppose the glass of wine has helped either

If you can - is anybody willing to do a swap with me? I'd like a pair in each size & in return could send you yarn, books, magazines or even needle sizes that you can't get eg 4mm.

Please have a think about it.....

Well done to DD on her swimming - she is amazing for her age isn't she!

As for the needles I just thought I'd let you know something that I found out when I bought my Boyes. - The US sizes don't match their equivalent mm sizes!!!! I have a mm needle gauge and use it quite often to check my Boyes and they are way out on what they are supposed to be - sometimes as much as 1/2mm.

My point being that if you want specifically 2.5mm, you may have to send a european needle gauge to a US friend and get them to check them out, 'cos I don't think they measure mm's the same as we do!!!!

(don't really know if that's making sense 'cos likewise I've had half a bottle of red, and it's late, but hopefully you get my drift!)

I just checked my favourite Addi supplier, and they only have 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm in the 40cm lengths, otherwise I would have done a swap with you!

I don't think Addi's are made in 2.25mm (not sure about the 2.75mm ones?). I ended up getting some Inox (I think?) 2.25 ones as I always seemed to need something in between 2 and 2.5!

Didn't she do fantastically well - you must be really proud of her! Good luck with the needle search too

Well done to DD! And she's only ten years old?!

I loved the photographs of Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks. We used to live very close and spent a lot of time at Fountains Abbey especially - it's a great place for picnics!

Don't know if you have managed to track down some needles but I have found that Crystal Palace make 2.25mmand 2.75mm and the sizes check out on a needle gauge. You can get them from "http://www.pmwoolcraft.co.uk" in the UK or probably cheaper from the US if you ordered them with yarn
